Meet Shelley Harland
Shelley Harland has spent 25 years mastering the art of songwriting, not in the spotlight, but in the studio, where true craft is forged. With over 100 million streams, major label deals with Sony and BMG, tours and collaborations with legends like Elvis Costello and John Cale (The Velvet Underground), her songs have travelled the world and back again.
Her music has appeared in The Voice, been featured in numerous hit TV shows and global ad campaigns, and taken her from Brooklyn subways to Vienna’s Lichtenstein Garten Palais, where she performed for Nicole Kidman. She has also graced legendary stages, from the Sydney Opera House to Irving Plaza in New York and the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.
Now, she’s sharing the creative process behind it all.
The Songwriters Path isn’t just about writing songs. It’s about unlocking intuition, discovering deep creative connection, and learning to write from the inside out. Here, Shelley gives you the tools to write fearlessly and create music that truly resonates.
Great songwriting isn’t just about catchy melodies or clever lyrics. It’s about crafting entire worlds that pull listeners in, stir emotions, and leave them changed.
Her song "More Than I Can Take" was featured in the TV series Wentworth, its haunting a cappella opening offering a glimpse into the emotional depth that has become a hallmark of her work.
With no formal training, Shelley taught herself songwriting and production in a tiny Brooklyn apartment, turning everyday sounds into beats and melodies using an MPC 2000 sampler. That hands-on approach, driven by curiosity and instinct, led her from indie experimentation to publishing and recording deals with BMG, Sony Music, and Alberts Publishing (home to AC/DC).
What does this mean for you?
It means that you don’t need a music degree or industry connections to write incredible songs.
